The branding journey: from lower case to capital M

There have been some important changes around Mimi Pineau Design lately. Setting aside for a moment the life-changing circumstance that starts with a “p” and ends with “emic”, there have been some positive outcomes to the challenges of the past year. We took the big leap of re-branding! It can be scary to let go of a suit you have worn for so many years, but the change has reflected on us so well, and in many ways.

While business activities and social activities shut down last year, some business owners floundered, some pivoted, and some stalled. As a motivated entrepreneur, I was determined to make this downtime really count. I wanted to make a move to the next level.

It was starting to become obvious that our website needed a major refresh, both for functionality and for aesthetics. That refresh had always ended up at the bottom of our to-do list – no more.

Much of my early pandemic activities revolved around attending webinars, trying to gain more business insight, attending continuing education courses, and focusing on marketing. Social media loves to market to our interests, and I soon heard about a federal grant for women-owned small businesses. I applied for, and received this grant (hurray!), and that set us on the path for a new website.

We were also desperately in need of graphic design, and combined with the website building, it took me down a whole path of soul-searching and growth. We looked into the “what”, “why” and “who” of my business. We got into goals and dreams. So many details! And I got to be on the receiving end of a truly customized experience.

We considered the subtle details in the type, logo style and proportion. I agonized over the right colour choices. We discussed website text, strategy and user experience.

Once we were done, what I originally thought was going to be a finessing of the logo turned into an altogether beautiful, but very different, brand image. A website with a distinctive, bold aesthetic then took shape.

 And I couldn’t be happier.

I’ll admit that it was difficult to part from the old logo. I was worried that I was letting part of myself go…

But growth doesn’t come without change, as they say.

Our new look feels more sophisticated, a bit bolder, but always in good taste. One of the details I love about the new logo is the subtle flow element, which circles back to fabric, spatial design and my background in dance.

We now present Mimi Pineau Design online with confidence and clarity, thanks to Austin Smyth Communications and M81 Creative

I love how the whole experience connects back to the unique client service that we provide in the course of an interior design project.  Getting to know the client intimately, pulling out their goals and creating an interior that is distinctly theirs speaks to the overall approach of this rebrand.

With our new look, we position ourselves to attract like-minded clients: those who appreciate a thoughtful process and are mindful of intentional details.
